Power system harmonics: Mitigation practices and technologies

ATTENDEES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

Get an overview of harmonics, their origins, and their effects on industrial electrical systems and the recommended practices of IEEE 519, which covers power system harmonics, harmonics effects on power equipment, and how harmonics should be limited. Various means of harmonics mitigation for variable frequency drives (VFDs) also will be covered, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each, as well as an alternative VFD technology to avoid the need for any mitigation.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn about harmonics, the problems resulting from harmonics, their causes and cures
  • Examine the advantages and disadvantages of various harmonics mitigation techniques
  • See how VFD technologies can avoid the need for other harmonics mitigation
